Bridges

A dental bridge is a false tooth made with porcelain that fills the gap left by a missing tooth. Teeth either side of the space can be used to anchor the bridge either with some preparation of these teeth, or occasionally no preparation at all.

The most common type usually consists of crowns on either side of the space, joined together by a false tooth and securely bonded in place. There are several types of bridges and at London Smiling we work together to choose the best solution for you.

Traditional Fixed Dental Bridge

Here the “false teeth” lie between two porcelain crowns to fill the gap left by the missing teeth. The two crowns holding it in place are cemented onto your own teeth either side of the false tooth.

Cantilever Dental Bridge
This is a more conservative solution. Here the “false tooth” is only supported on one side and so can only be used in areas of low stress near the front teeth.
Resin Bonded Dental Bridges / Maryland Dental Bridge
This is the most conservative design as often the supporting teeth have minimal or no preparation at all. The “false tooth” is fused to metal or ceramic “wings” that are bonded to the inner surface of the supporting teeth with a resin.
Implant Supported Dental Bridges

Implants are the modern way to replace missing teeth. They are placed in the bone where the missing tooth would have originally been. Made of titanium, they fuse to the bone replacing the missing root and it can be restored with individual crowns or, when more than one tooth is missing, with an implant supported dental bridge. With this type of bridge, there is no need for teeth to support the bridge, the implants provide the support.
