Whitening

Your smile is a big part of the image you reflect and can speak volumes without your even saying a word. A whiter, brighter smile can help you to feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression. Teeth whitening is actually one of the best ways to give my patients a really good confidence boost.

What type of teeth whitening are available and what does it do?

Home Whitening

A custom-made mouth guard is provided into which you distribute a small amount of whitening gel. This is worn overnight and over the period of one to two weeks, your teeth will gradually lighten. The home kit can also be used to give even more whitening after “power” whitening, if required.

Laser or In Surgery

Laser whitening lightens the teeth using a photosensitive gel, which is painted onto the teeth and then activated by light. The whole process takes about an hour.

Is it safe?

Both treatments are completely safe, but should only be prescribed and carried out by a professional. Documented studies demonstrate that whitening causes no damage to the tooth structure. It does not cause brittleness or weakening of teeth and no cavities or gum problems have been shown to form because of the bleaching.

Does it hurt?

Most people find teeth whitening procedures to be painless, however some people may experience tooth sensitivity to hot and cold, or mild gum irritation after the procedure has taken place. This is a temporary effect that could last between 24 to 48 hours after the procedure takes place. A big misconception of teeth whitening is that it can make your teeth even more sensitive, but this simply isn’t the case.

Does it work?

Professional tooth whitening will lighten stained teeth (often through drinking coffee tea and red wine), remove cigarette and tobacco stains, and correct yellowing teeth due to ageing.

How long do teeth whitening procedures take?

In surgery, whitening takes about one hour. At-home whitening takes about two weeks.

How long does it last?

The procedure lasts two to five years depending on your dietary habits. Whitening is very easy to top up and maintain.
